Managing Side Effects of OAT: An Ortho Perspective

Presented by: Maria Therese Galang-Boquiren, DMD, MS
Thursday, October 21, 2021
7pm ET/6pm CT/5pm MT/4pm PT

While oral appliances are an effective treatment option for obstructive sleep apnea, changes to the dental occlusion are a common side effect. With the indefinite nature of oral appliance therapy, a clear understanding of the magnitude and progression of occlusal changes is needed. During this webinar, an orthodontist will provide insight into the nature of occlusal changes, their impact on patient satisfaction and some remedial strategies.

Target Audience
Dentists treating patients with sleep-related breathing disorders.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Consider individual patient risk for occlusal changes;
  2. Discuss expectations of known side effects with patients embarking on OAT; and
  3. Plan strategies to counteract device forces and monitor for problematic changes
